Not Quite Anything
January 21
That's what I've been good for, and what I've accomplished, today. Not quite anything.
I've almost finished reading Declare-- but not quite. I'm almost done with "Uncrowned Kings"-- but not quite. I almost got a bunch of stories ready to go in the mail-- but, well, you know.
I finished the dream sequence in "Uncrowned," but that was only about 500 words. I know how the story is supposed to end... but I’m not sure how to plausibly get to the ending I envision. I need to take a long walk and think about it, figure out the mechanics.
I figured out where to send the half-dozen stories that are still sitting around, but I don't have enough printer paper to print them all, so it'll be Tuesday before I can get them in the mail.
I feel like a big slug. Like I'm falling victim to some terrible lethargy-inducing radiation. It's a wonder you guys are even getting an entry.
I decided to just let my passivity ride, so I went to see The Gift this afternoon. Screenplay by Billy Bob Thornton, directed by Sam Raimi, a lead role for Cate Blanchett... I knew it would be at least an okay movie. I liked it a lot-- it reminded me of What Lies Beneath in terms of tone, though I think Gift is a better film. Lots of good actors in this one. Giovanni Ribisi had some great scenes (though I confess I'll always think of him as D.P.O., "Lightning Boy" from the X-Files back in the good ol' Monster-of-the-Week days). Hilary Swank didn't have much to do, but she did it well enough. And Cate Blanchett, of course, was the heart of the film. It's good to see Gary Cole in a non-Brady Bunch movie, too. I was a big fan of his work in the one-season wonder American Gothic.
Once again Keanu Reeves marred an otherwise good film with his non-acting. Ah, well.
Otherwise... Ate ice cream. Watched television. Bleah, bleah.
That's enough of this...
If you're so inclined, send me mail.
