"Everything in the garden's lovely"
February 25
I've just had most of a plate of cheese fries, and a vanilla shake from Saturn, and I feel stuffed and sleepy and happy, a totally visceral variety of contentment. Let's see if I can make it through a whole entry without slumping down in my chair and slumbering pleasantly.
I worked on my synopsis tonight, for Genius-- and I finished it. That's what today's word count came from, actually-- I didn't write a lick of fiction, but that synopsis is an achievement. After many false starts over the past couple-few weeks, I decided to just do the stupid thing, and let it be terrible. So I did, and it is. The synopsis seems to leave out all the cool stuff, and it makes the remarkable seem prosaic, the emotional seem manipulative, and it makes a total hash of Hindu mythology for the sake of simplicity. It's like the worst book report ever.
But it's something to work with, and refine, and make better, and I feel absolutely miles better for having done it.
I accomplished a couple of other things I had on my list, too, though not all of them-- which is as I expected. I have a long list. It will keep me occupied for quite some time. I'm reading In the Garden of Iden by Kage Baker, and I like it a lot. The scene where the narrator has sex for the first time is funny and sweet and charming and poignant. I liked it a lot, because it wasn't your typical "inflamed-with-passion" kind of sex scene, but was instead very personal and true to the characters.
It's been a very readerish kind of day. I'm enjoying Garden, and I'm reading a fabulous novel manuscript by one of my fine friends. Apart from the synopsis, that's most of what I did today-- dwelled in worlds other than this one. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday.
If you're so inclined, send me mail.
