Darlings!
So very much to write about, but I'll try to limit and order it somewhat, lest I overwhelm you with a litany of consequentialities...
So. In brief:
Friday Meg arrived, and we lunched at Jack's, home of delicious burgers and fries. We sat in the sun and talked about our plans for the next year, insofar as that's possible. By the end of this month we should know where we're going to be living. While the larger questions are unresolved, we were able to talk about furniture and decorations and stuff like that-- which is a real thrill, darlings. Planning my life with this woman, planning our life-- what a complete pleasure. We further discussed plans for May, also known as the Month of No Money. I'm going to North Carolina for Amily's wedding, Meg's graduation, and various friend-and-relative visits, then zipping off to WisCon, then coming back to go to Meg's cousin's wedding on the first weekend in June. I hope to have a job lined up by then, so that I can start work somewhere soon after. We're going to be living on a cushion of credit cards for a bit, I'm afraid-- paying deposits and sundry set-up costs will in all likelihood devour most of our savings. But then we'll be a two-income household, and it should get a bit easier. She doesn't have the student-loan-monster to pay, neither of us has car payments to worry about... we'll be in a fair position after a few paychecks, I think.
And we'll be together, which is what's most important.
Friday afternoon we puttered around, and we took an obscenely long nap. It was justifiable for sweet Meg, since she'd been up since 4:30 a.m. Eastern time, but it was just pure cuddlesome laziness on my part. We got up, couch-cuddled, talked and watched TV.
Saturday we showered and then breakfasted at Zachary's, our morning repast of choice. Then we leisurely made our way to Hole in the Wall and sat on the windy beach. Such gorgeous weather! Meg's really lucked out on all her visits here-- she seems to drive the rain away. We grocery shopped and rented movies, then came home and cooked a mushroom-and-sausage lasagna. We ate, watched Dangerous Liasons, and she crocheted. Eventually we went to bed... and some time later we went to sleep.
Sunday we headed for Berkely to visit Karen and Pär and Tot. We bore gifts-- a lasagna for the parents, and baby booties for Jeremiah! That's what Meg's been working on, crochet-wise. The booties are adorable, and Pär popped them right onto the Totlet's cute little stumpy feet. We had lunch with Karen at Au Coquelet-- I satisfied my craving for a good club sandwich, while Meg had a quiche that would later make her tummy most unhappy. We drove around a bit with Karen, then said our farewells.
Me and Meg wandered a bit, then struck out for the wilds of Hayward to see Timprov and Marissa. I don't think we bored Meg too much with writerly talk-- at least, she didn't yell at me about it if we did. :)
We dined at Olive Garden and had muchlovely talk... though Meg and Timprov were both feeling less than fabulous.
Because of Meg's ickiness, we left shortly after dinner. Once home I plied her with Pepto and tea, and generally gratified her every Meggish whim. By the time we went to sleep, she seemed mostly better, and this morning when I woke her up (at 6:30!) to say bye-bye for the day, she seemed fine. I'm sure she'll be full of sass and gumdrops when I get home this afternoon.
Work is work. There's rather a lot of work to do today, too. It feels terribly wrong to be away from Meg when she's in town! But I just can't take any more time off. Sigh.
I made a sorta-momentous decision today, too-- not immediately momentous, and it's not totally out of left field, but it's something I've been chewing over for a while that I finally decided on. I'll tell y'all about it later, though... I really should get back to the rigors of manual-editing.
I've missed you. Hope you're all having a lovely bunch of lives.
If you're so inclined, send me mail.
