Just Rainbows

A much better day. I got up on time, my hip didn't hurt; all was loveliness. I went to work, where we had to do a bit of last minute work on the issue, since we got word that R.A. Lafferty had died. A shame; he was one of the great old guys. We've lost a lot of fine writers in recent years... We didn't have time to put together a full obituary, but we did a brief write-up, and will do something more complete in the next issue.

I came home to Heather (who updated her journal tonight), who'd stayed home sick, and we talked, and all was well. We rented Session 9 on DVD (thanks to Gary for recommending it in his journal!), and it was wonderful, atmospheric and smart and creepy and misleading. Makes me want to see Brad Anderson's other movie, Happy Accidents, which I hear is a time-travel romantic comedy... the guy has range...

Other than that, not much going on. I looked over the bits I wrote on "Romanticore" last night and decided they were still good. Heather agrees. I printed out a story that got rejected by Albedo One; off it goes, elsewhere. I also had a rejection from New Genre; have to figure out where to send it next. And so it goes.

Still reading good, dense stuff, Powers and Kiernan. Might have to read some Terry Pratchett or something similarly airy after those...

I got a chapbook order from New Zealand this week; had one a while back from Australia. See, me and Heather, we're international; we've got global appeal. If you haven't gotten a chapbook yet, do! Literary goodness, for cheap! $2.75! And I even put a little PayPal button on the page, for those of you who want instant gratification.

Today I got to read part of ... is this a cat?... very neat. Worth your four dollars plus one dollar for shipping, I think.

Tremendous congrats to Mike Jasper for getting into the Dean & Kris & Gardner pro writer's workshop! I so very much wanted to apply, but it's not financially viable, I'm afraid... just as well. It spares me the sadness of being rejected. Maybe I can do something similar some other year. The notion of intensive pro short-story workshops really appeals to me.

Hmm. Other stuff. I put a new header image on the main journal page, as you may've noticed. Just doing my part to spiff up the place. When I get bored I make new "Tropism" designs in Photoshop. This is one such.
