Checking In
June 4

Hello, lovelies. Just a quick catch-you-up entry before Heather (beautiful, yummy, lovely, adorable and much-adored Heather) and I take off for Oakland.
We went to see the Old 97s on Saturday night, and they were awesome. I'd expected they would be, but man, I just bounced and danced with Heather and sang along and had a fabulous time. I got to hang out with my friend Michael Allen, too, who's visiting from Boone (not visiting me in particular, just sort of driving all around the country, but still), as he attended the show with us. Rockin' good.
"Behemoth" remains ever a bridesmaid. I got word this morning-- Chiaroscuro passed. They said all the nice things-- they loved it, all the editors liked it, they can't publish all the excellent stories they receive, I came as close as it's possible to come without making a sale, etc. Which is nice, and I'll certainly send them more stories, but it doesn't change the fact that I have to send the story somewhere else. Sigh.
I finished writing my little gods story this morning while Heather was down the street at Well Within, getting a massage. It's 5100 words, titled "Little Gods of Grief," and I think it's pretty much done. I'll do an edit, and polish it a bit, but I think it's a solid piece, probably one of the better stories I've ever written.
Heather and I did a hot tub this morning-- so luxurious! And it seemed both a nice reward to myself for finishing "Little Gods" and a pouty indulgence for failing to sell "Behemoth." I've been living very decadently for the past month, what with all my travels and vacationing and book-buying and eating out, and the hot tub seemed a nice finish to that decadence. Though it's actually incredibly cheap to use the hot tub on Monday mornings, so it wasn't so decadent, after all. It felt that way, though.
Sigh. So much more to say! Lots lots more! But I must go, and enjoy my last day-and-a-half of pre-job freedom, the last of my beautifully extended time with Heather of my heart. You'll hear from me again soon, probably tomorrow night, and I'll elaborate on some things I've already mentioned, and write about more, and so on.
If you're so inclined, send me mail.
