Another issue finished! Hurrah! The July issue has interviews with Elizabeth Hand and the lovely Kelly Link, the usual load of reviews, international reports, and other loveliness. It'll be out in about another week and a half, but all the work on it is done. Now comes the brief, blissful fallow period at work, la...
Hmm. Busy weekend coming up. Going to Ellen Datlow's appearance at Borderlands Books on Saturday (so I can see Sean and Ling, mostly, though it'll be neat meeting Ellen), having dinner with some people on Saturday night, and then my boss's birthday party on Sunday... should be interesting, if not restful.
I'm going to Neil Gaiman's Coraline reading in a couple of weeks -- I'm so excited! (not least of all because I'm getting into the reading free as a member of the press, taking some pictures for A Certain Magazine)... I found out today that my story "The Witch's Bicycle" is being reviewed in the August issue of A Certain Magazine, which is cool... if anybody sees any reviews of that story (or any of my stories, for that matter), let me know... I'm even interested in bad reviews that call me names. Preferably if they're inventive names.
Sigh. I got paid yesterday, and deposited my paycheck yesterday evening, but my bank still thinks I only have $10.52. Sigh. Guess I'll go grocery shopping tomorrow night, then. I have cash for eats for tonight, at least... I think Heather and I are blowing off the gym (well, at this point, I *know* I'm blowing off the gym, but Heather might be, too); she's not feeling well, and I'm feeling a tiny bit harried this week, and could use tonight to relax, so I'm gonna. We got two DVDs today, Hearts In Atlantis, which I've not seen, and Swimming with Sharks, which I've seen many times, but Heather never has. (Am I the only person who does not consider Swimming with Sharks a comedy? It has funny bits, sure, but every place I've seen it categorized, they call it a comedy, and I wouldn't call it that -- not even a black comedy. I think it's a tragedy, if I have to call it anything... Kevin Spacey's "stinking longnecks" speech can not exist in a comedy, not as far as I'm concerned.)
I'm rambling on here because I just got home, and I don't have much else to do until Heather gets here... I mean, I could write, or read slush, but I'm not up for that kind of effort so soon after my workday. Basically, I'm killing time until a Simpsons re-run comes on...
I am so looking forward to reading Stephen King's From a Buick 8. I was a bit trepidatious -- King's been hit-and-miss these past few years, and from what I'd heard of the story, it could conceivably be bad -- but I read a review today that says it's his finest novel since The Green Mile, and that's from a reviewer I trust, so I'm now free to be unreservedly excited. Yum. I can't wait. But I have to. Sigh. (Lots of sighs tonight.) It's nice to be really excited about an upcoming book, though... the only other one I'm really looking forward to reading is Alex Irvine's A Scattering of Jades... I hear mutterings that it's the only clear contender for the Crawford award to come out so far this year, which is promising... I'm sure I'll read other books that delight me, but it's nice to be bouncy-excited about books, as I was last year with Black House and The Scar (which I read this year, actually) and American Gods...
Hmm. I seem to be getting over my tired-of-SF thing. That's nice, especially considering that I never actually stopped reading SF while I felt that way...

Nice night. We ordered pizza, and watched Hearts in Atlantis (which was pretty good), and frolicked, and I wrote 1350 words on Rangergirl, and read a bit. Lovely. Life is good.

So I looked for all those cartoons I was talking about and found a great site: Yesterdayland. Taking the wayback train to my formative years.
