The Slow Way to San Jose
August 29
My hopes for a substantial update before Worldcon have proven groundless, so here's a quick one to say, in essence: Off we go!
Heather and I are easing into this -- neither of us has been to a Worldcon before, and fear being devoured. We're also trying to (hollow laugh) treat it as a vacation, some much-needed time away from our day-to-day routines, reminding ourselves that the Con is only as busy as we make it, and so forth. With that in mind, we slept in a bit this morning, and are now finishing up last-minute packing. We'll go have a nice breakfast somewhere, then head down to San Jose, hoping to reach the hotel in mid-afternoon. We'll dump our stuff in the room, go pick up our program materials & sundry other stuff, wander around the dealer's room, say hello to people, and so forth. Tomorrow everything begins in earnest, with Heather doing two readings and me doing one, along with numerous other readings and events and parties we want to attend -- so this Thursday is the quiet before the storm. We're taking a deep breath... and then plunging deep into Worldcon.
I'll try to take notes toward a con report, to post when I get back. Until next week, I remain, your obdn't srvnt, etc.
If you're so inclined, send me mail.
