Unconned

September 2

It had an almost totally positive con experience -- better than I'd hoped! -- and I even conscientiously took notes toward writing a day-by-day con report, though I'm not up for that much writing tonight. Hopefully I'll post it later this week, possibly in several parts.

Without getting into a tangle of details, though, I can at least tell you what I bought. I didn't go as mad in the dealer's room as I'd expected. I got a Cthulhu t-shirt (my old Miskatonic University shirt having almost wholly disintegrated at this point) and a few books: A Year in the Linear City by Paul di Filippo, which I read tonight, and quite liked; On Pirates by William Ashbless (that is to say, Tim Powers & James Blaylock); The Astonished Eye by Tracy Knight (which I have long coveted, and which I could afford, since it was being sold at half price); and Dark Terrors 2 and 3, for the princely sum of $10 each. Not too shabby. All in all, I didn't blow nearly as much cash at the con as I'd anticipated (though the $7 drinks at the bar set me back a bit, I admit).

I came home today to find a rejection from Horror Garage; sigh. So it goes. I'll send it elsewhere soon.

Heather and I went to see XXX this afternoon (bless movie theater air conditioning!), and I found it a loud and illogical and violent and altogether pleasant viewing experience. There were other movies we considered seeing (including Possession, based on Byatt's novel, at least partially written and directed by Neal Labute! How did I not hear about this film before now?), but they all would have required attention and even thought, things we were not prepared to give.

Tomorrow, I return to my life. How strange. Conventions are odd; they mess with my subjective sense of time. I feel like I've been away from everything for a long time -- so many thoughts, conversations, and experiences compressed into such a small period of time. But really, it was just a few days. I'll tell you all about it later.

But really, the main thing to know is, it was good; everything else is just details.
