Crass
September 10
I wasn't going to update, but hell, why not? I'm awake, and I've played enough Diablo for one night...
I haven't worked on Rangergirl yet this week -- at least, not in a driving-up-the-word-count way. I've figured out what happens in all but one of my backfill scenes, though, and I've solved another nagging problem in the story, so I've been doing lots of mental work, and taking notes, and so on. I've been reading the new Terry Pratchett on my lunch break at work instead of writing, and the past couple of evenings I haven't been capable of much more than vegetating, so not much is getting done. I did do a fair bit of reading tonight, at least... I'm reading a Ramsey Campbell collection and the newest Writers of the Future antho, both of which I plan to review.
Oh, hey, go read Heather's poem in Strange Horizons!
Hmm. Not much to report, really. Realms of Fantasy rejected a light fantasy collab Heather and I wrote (form letter, encouraging scribble from the assistant who read it). Otherwise, no movement on the story-front. Our mail never came today, which is immensely frustrating, especially since I saw the mailman at the other end of the block when I was coming home from work. I guess he just quit before he made it to our house (I know he never came because the outgoing mail in the box didn't get picked up). Grr. And we're expecting Season 3 of The Sopranos on DVD, too. That would've been more fun than playing video games and watching a Buffy rerun. Stupid mailman.
Let's see, stuff that's not about me... congrats to the winners of this year's Rhysling award! Long poem: "How To Make A Human", by Lawrence Schimel; Short poem: "We Die As Angels" by William John Watkins. Both fine poems! If you'd like to buy copies of the latest Rhysling anthology (only $5!), send e-mail to our treasurer, John Nichols, at bejay@dm.net. And if you haven't joined SFPA, follow the link and do so! The first Pratt-edited issue of Star*Line will be out soon, and you don't wanna miss that, do you?
See, here at Tropism, you don't just get crass self-promotion, you get crass organization-promotion!
That's enough for tonight. I'll probably join the general respectful silence, and not post tomorrow. Of course, by the time I upload this and you read it, it'll likely be 9/11...
If you're so inclined, send me mail.
