Clap Hands, Sing
September 29
I am officially ten times cooler now than I was this morning.
I just sold a story, "Annabelle's Alphabet", to Lady Churchill's Rosebud Wristlet. Which puts me in the company of people like Kelly Link, Nalo Hopkinson, Carol Emshwiller, Ellen Klages, James Sallis, and Trey, to name a few. I wrote "Annabelle's" on January 23rd, 1998 (thank goodness for my obsessive journalling habits, hmm? For otherwise I'd never know when I wrote anything), when Blah and I were in the fullest newest flower of our love. It's sort of about her, and sort of about child abuse, and sort of about wonder, and sort of about dreams... it's one of my most literary stories; possibly my absolutely most literary story. It has a very non-traditional structure, and in some ways it's more like an extended prose-poem than a story. But I've always liked it, and I'm so glad to have it appearing in such a super-cool venue. It's scheduled to appear in the next issue, coming out at the end of October.
I needed this. I am much becheered.
(So my Bibliography is all fancily updated, if anyone cares)
This morning Karen, came to visit, and we went for coffee and took a walk and chatted; very lovely. She found a lovely-colored leaf on the sidewalk and tucked it behind my ear... Karen is a true sweetness.
I spent the afternoon slaying desert-creatures in Diablo II; verily, my wrath is great. I also did dishes, and looked over the editor's changes to "Behemoth"; good and minor changes. Heather just got home a bit ago, and I shared my good news with her. We're going to our favorite sushi place this evening. The owner and head chef is going back to Japan soon, and this is the last night he'll be there... the last night he'll ever be there, as he's sold the restaurant. He may return and open another restaurant, though; we can hope. He's a very nice guy, and his food is to die for.
Then, tonight, it's off to see Rockwell Church! A wonderful musical duo. They're playing in the City, and Scott and Lynne are coming up to see them, too. I miss Scott and Lynne very quite much.
And there are other felicities and nicenesses in store, but I'll save those for later entries... I'm in a much better mood today than I have been. Tra, and la, and la again!
If you're so inclined, send me mail.
