Sun Day
October 7
11:58 a.m.
So yesterday, Saturday. I still had annoying stomach-related problems, but not too debilitating. I had a fairly productive day... I put together three poetry submissions (and sent out the one that was an e-sub; the paper subs are sitting on my bed, waiting patiently to be mailed on Monday). I did a good bit of fiction writing, 2400 more words on the Marla story (it's about half done, now). The story is fun and funny and full of life, even though it's largely about the dead. Go figure.
I washed dishes in the afternoon, always a Zen experience. Heather made an immensely fancy Thai dinner for our Date Night-- soup, bean salad, green curry. Yumminess squared. We dined and watched a few more episodes of Buffy (our good intentions of rationing the tapes have dissolved; but a Buffy-binge-fest is fun-- why cut ourselves off from fun?)
I read a good bit... and that's all. That's the day. Pleasant, if gray outside. Uneventful.
This morning, of course, I woke up to find that we're bombing the ineffable hell out of Afghanistan.
Sigh.
6:17 p.m.
Well, I'd planned on working on the Marla story some more, but then the power went out for a few hours. I read a bit and then Heather and I went to a coffee shop. We've started another collab, this one a darkish contemporary fantasy... it's good so far, though we had a bit of wrangling over the details. Just a bit ago we made an enormous dinner of fancy eggs and pancakes (with gen-you-wine maple syrup). As we ate, we watched the "The Wish" episode of Buffy. Ah, evil Willow in leather. That's lovely.
I would actually write Buffy fiction. Yes, I would. If the Buffy novel people come knockin', I won't turn them away. I never thought I'd say that about a media book, but there you are.
Of course, they haven't come knockin'. Nor do I expect them to.
(Oddly enough, the book I'm reading (After Age) is by Yvonne Navarro-- who is known for her Buffy novels (which I've not read), particularly "The Willow Chronicles." My, what a small world there is in my mind)
I also wrote a poem called "Broom" which I think is pretty good, if a bit too long and over-narrative. Maybe I'll be able to hammer it into shape sometime in the future.
For now, I've got more reading ahead of me.
12:54 a.m.
So, more reading and writing ensued. I finished off mine and Heather's third collab, "A Serious Case of Fairies." Now the ball's in her court; she has to do a polish, and we'll send it off, tra la. (On a related note, Heather made a bibliography page tonight) We watched more Buffy (finishing off our tape-- we're wretched gluttons), and I did cursed dishes (though Heather was kind enough to do half of them). We spent a while on the couch together, reading. Now she's in bed, and I'm just finishing this off, before I do a bit more reading and then sleep myself.
If you're so inclined, send me mail.
