Spelling My Way
October 30
Good news all around! M'ris made a sale to Future Orbits, which is nifty and pays a good bit and will publish her promptly, tra la.
And for me, my story "Annabelle's Alphabet" is in the new issue of Lady Churchill's Rosebud Wristlet, so run out and buy a copy. Or run to their website and order one. Or what have you. I shall patiently await my contributor's copy...
And in sad news all around...
Josh Kirby died. I must admit, I prefer Paul Kidby's Discworld illustrations, but Kirby's had a grand funkiness that I will miss... and he was apparently quite a nice guy. A Certain Magazine is running some appreciations of him in the December issue, and perhaps a drawing...
And Karen is, at least, taking a break from journalling; perhaps stopping altogether. That's a sadness. I can still see her, talk to her, be somewhat part of that physical world she presently prefers, but I'll miss the dips and forays into her thoughts, the words she put in Thought Experiment that I wouldn't, otherwise, have heard. But, on the happy side, she's putting her attention into writing a book, which is indescribably wonderful, because I adore her writing, and would love someday to read a novel's worth of it.
Not much else to report. Reading Wicked, loving it. Reading Voice of Our Shadow by Carroll, liking it. Work is busy and not too interesting-- making phone calls, mostly, sending e-mail. My boss is off having fun in Montreal, for World Fantasy Con.
Yesterday was pretty much a wash. I played some Diablo II (making progress, though Heather has left me very much in the dust; she's in Act 4 already!). I read a lot. That's about it. Hardly exciting, and not even exactly fun; time passed in a fairly pleasant, if somewhat desultory, way.
The issue of A Certain Magazine containing my first review goes out in the mail tomorrow; nifty, hmm? Observe my name on the Table of Contents, near the bottom right, in Divers Hands! Hurrah!
Tonight Heather and I brought home pizza, and ate it, yum. Garlic and Canadian bacon and pepperoni for me. We also attempted to watch Buffy, on the Television of Flickering. Perhaps we might someday invest in a new TV... though that seems a bit extravagant when all we want to watch is Buffy and the occasional Simpsons; this set plays videos fine...
For Hallowe'en I think Heather and I are just staying in, carving a couple of pumpkins, eating delicious candy and giving candy to the few young ones who'll dare their way through the garden and up the steps. And Thursday I may go visiting; that's not certain yet, but it's a strong possibility, and would do me good.
If you're so inclined, send me mail.
