Sick Boy

November 1

Bleah.

I feel like 180 pounds of unrefined ass.

I started feeling sick yesterday afternoon at work-- sore throat, headache, and even some lightheadedness... I thought I was going to fall down during the course of calibrating a Rotational Penetrometer... so I left work a tad early, came home, and ate something, thinking that might alleviate my dizziness.

I don't know if it helped. I didn't stand up much more all night. I took drugs for my headache, drank lots of water, and tried to ignore the signals my body was sending me. I tried to write (I have this cool story idea!), and failed. I tried to read, and even books with pictures required more attention than I could muster. Meg called, and had the opportunity to listen to me moan and complain for a pretty long time... and when I finally released her, I went to bed.

I slept through Hallowe'en, which sucks. I heard a couple of rings at the doorbell, and almost got myself up to deal with them-- I hate to leave the kidlets without candy, and I like seeing all the enthusiasm and costumes... but I heard Scott dispensing goodies, so I left him to it. Santa Cruz is supposed to be quite astonishing on Hallowe'en, and judging from the costumed crowds I saw driving home, I can easily believe it. I missed it this year, though.

I slept through the night, woke this morning with an even sorer throat, and called in sick to work. Then I slept some more. Recently I ventured out for some orange juice and food (fortunately the Bagelry is right across the street; the myriad benefits of living downtown).

Now I'm sitting here, hoping I feel better soon. I hate to waste a sick day on being sick.

(Although, actually, I seldom use sick days in an unauthorized fashion. I feel bad calling in when I'm actually sick-- like I'm trying to get away with something sly and illicit. I have a weird work-ethic thing going, sometimes. I wish I could divest myself of it)

Hope you all had a good Hallow's Eve... I got to go to an excellent Haunted House on Monday night, so at least I didn't miss out on the holiday completely...
