My good cover karma continues with this amazing art by Raymond Swanland:
That’s my main character, Zaltys, who looks mostly human, but who’s got a bit of snake in her ancestry. She is an archer. She is even more badass here than I imagined her.

Dude. Schweet 🙂
Indeed. Very impressive. Look forward to reading it.
Oooh, excellent! I take it Zaltys is from or connected to Najara? 🙂
Let’s just say she’s probably got some family there. 🙂
(The question of her origins is something the novel’s about, actually…)
That is a very nice cover.
Stupid questions (maybe especially stupid to ask the author ;-)….
How accessible is this to someone who doesn’t read RPG fiction (like me)?
How about someone who doesn’t play D&D…or doesn’t play RPGs at all? FWIW, I do play various RPGs, including various versions of D&D. I’m really more wondering if that would help make it more accessible to me, not matter at all, or what. I’ve never gotten into reading fiction set in D&D or other RPGs . . . but I’m tempted because I enjoy your work so much.
Also, Amazon says it’s YA. Is this the case or are they just auto-classifying because it’s RPG fiction? (I’ve noticed Amazon’s classifications are sometimes wildly inaccurate.)
Thanks!
Nah, it’s not YA, really, except insofar as it has a couple of teen viewpoint characters. (It also has viewpoint characters who are centuries old…)
It should be quite accessible to someone who’s never done D&D. It’s just a sword-and-sorcery adventure story. I explain all the fantasy elements/weird stuff as much as I would if I were writing something wholly original.
Thanks! I’ll check it out.
Just saw mention of your book on the WotC Novels Book Club.
Really awesome cover!
